Illinois State Baseball Hires Tony Jandron as Assistant Coach

NORMAL, Ill.  Illinois State baseball has announced the hiring of Tony Jandron as an Assistant Coach, revealed Friday.

Jandron, a former All-American at St. Norbert and native of Negaunee, Mich., spent the last five seasons as an assistant at Central Michigan and amassed a 177-80 (.689) record as a Chippewa.

Central Michigan was in the NCAA Tournament three times (2019, 2021, 2022) during Jandron's time in Mount Pleasant and set a program record with 133 stolen bases in 2023.

Prior to his time at CMU, Jandron was an assistant for three years at Northwood, holding a 109-53 (.673) record as the Timberwolves won their first-ever GLIAC championship in 2017 before winning a second conference title in 2018.

Jandron, who played every position at St. Norbert besides catcher while leading the nation with a .511 batting average in 2010, began his coaching career with a two-year stint at College of DuPage.

Across his three stops prior to coming to ISU, Jandron has coached 11 players that went on to play in MLB organizations.

QUOTES:

TONY JANDRON

"I'm thankful for all of the support through this journey and I'm excited for the opportunity to be a Redbird. There is a clear vision for the future of this program and the staff are knowledgeable, personable, and hard-working. I'm anxious to get to work to create a dynamic and exciting product on the field. Most importantly, I'm looking forward to building relationships with the players and the ISU community."

SIXTH-YEAR HEAD COACH STEVE HOLM

"I couldn't be happier to add Tony Jandron to our program! Central Michigan has been a powerhouse in the Midwest the last few years and Tony was an integral part to their success. Here at Illinois State, he will coach third base and be in charge of the running game, which was one of CMU's biggest strengths. He will be in charge of the short game and assist with infielders, as well. Tony's rapport with his players is second to none and I can't wait to see his impact on our guys!"
