Men’s Golf Named a GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award Recipient

NORMAN, Okla. – The Illinois State men's golf team was recently named a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Outstanding Team Academic Award recipient, announced by the GCAA on Thursday afternoon.

By virtue of having greater than a 3.0 team grade point average, the Redbirds were named as one of the program's All-Academic Teams.

Last season the Redbirds advanced to the NCAA Regional for the first time since the 2007 season and ISU placed inside of the top-10 in the strong field in Bath, Michigan.

The team had a stroke average of 292.4, the fourth-lowest in program history, with each of the top six team marks coming since 2016-17. The teams' 836 at the 2023 MVC Championship set a new program record, and four of the top 20 tournament scores in school history came during the season, and four of the top-25 single round scores came during the year, and all four coming over the final three tournaments of the year.

Established in 1958, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) is the professional organization of men's collegiate golf coaches. The GCAA's mission is to support its member coaches from six divisions, including the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA, by creating educational opportunities, providing resources, and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors, and teachers. The GCAA also recognizes the excellence and achievements of its members and their student-athletes in academic, athletic, and civic endeavors.
