NORMAN, Okla. – Illinois State golfers Felix van Dijk and Parker Wisdom have been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar team.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Last season the Redbirds advanced to the NCAA Regional for the first time since the 2007 season and ISU placed inside of the top-10 in the strong field in Bath, Michigan.
Felix van Dijk averaged 73.1 strokes per round last season en route to earning All-MVC honors, as he had 12 rounds at or under par during the year including three tournaments where he finished in the top-10. van Dijk tied a MVC Championship record with a round of 65 to open the MVC Tournament, as the Redbirds' three-round 836 at that tournament set a new program record and was the second-lowest in the history of the MVC. The 204 carded by van Dijk at the tournament was the third-lowest in program history.
Wisdom, a native of Bloomington, played in all 38 rounds with a scoring average of 74.7 with 10 rounds at or under par. Over back-to-back tournaments he set personal tournament records with rounds of 215 at the Boilermaker Invitational and at the MVC Championship. At the NCAA championships he set and later tied a career-best round with a 69 at the NCAA Championship.
