CINCINNATI, Ohio – With rounds of 290 and 296, the Illinois State Redbirds stand in 15th place in a deep and strong Bearcat Invitational field.
A dozen schools in the tournament finished inside of the top-100 in last season's GofStat end of season rankings, and tournament host Cincinnati leads the field with a 556 (-12). Chattanooga (559), Louisville (564), Middle Tennessee State (565), and BYU (568) round out the top five in the field. Nebraska (570), UNCG (571), FGCU (573), Southern Miss (576), Virginia Tech (577), Memphis (578), Jacksonville (579), UCF (580), and Little Rock (583) round out the schools ahead of ISU with Arkansas State (587) and Sam Houston State (593) rounding out the field.
ISU returns to the course for the third and final day of the tournament alongside UCF and Little Rock, starting at 8 a.m. CT.
Leading the way on the day for the Redbirds was Valentin Peugnet, who started with a one-under opening round of 70 in which he had four birdies, three bogeys and 11 pars. His afternoon round added an additional birdie and 13 pars for a four-over second round, closing the first day tied for 38th place.
Alex McCulla had a steady day for ISU with rounds of 72 (+1) and 74 (+3), including three birdies and 11 pars over his first 18 holes, while adding an additional birdie and 13 pars in the final round to finish his two rounds with a 146, tied for 45th.
Redbird newcomer TJ Barger closed his day with an even-par 71 for his second-lowest round as a Redbird, carding six birdies and eight pars for the 71, after opening his day with a five-over 76. His two round 147 is tied for 51st.
Parker Wisdom had four birdies on his day – three in the first round – as he had rounds of 72 and 77, and his 149 is tied for 68th in the strong field.
Will Troy opened his day with a birdie and 11 pars, before following with three birdies and nine pars for his two-round 152, which is tied for 77th.
