NORMAL, Ill. – The Redbirds ended in a 2-2 draw with the Golden Grizzlies this afternoon at Adelaide Street Field. Although the Redbirds were leading 1-0 at the half, for the first time this season, Oakland matched the Redbirds goals in the second half to come away with the tie.
Katie O'Malley notched her first career goal as a Redbird only two minutes into the match. The goal came after a penalty, earning O'Malley the penalty kick attempt and which put the Redbirds up to an early one-nil lead. Hayley Glover found the back of the net on the set up from Sydney Smith to create the centering pass opportunity for Ava Watson leading to the eventual goal for Glover, that put Illinois State ahead 2-1.
The Redbirds outshot the Grizzlies 17-11 as well as led with one more shot on goal. Audrey Brown made five saves in goal, but Oakland found the equalizer in the 70th minute and the Redbirds were unable to break through in the remaining time.
