ST LOUIS – Illinois State Women's Basketball took home an MVC weekly honor for the second straight week DeAnna Wilson earned MVC Player of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Wednesday. She joins Shannon Dowell, who earned Valley Freshman of the Week honors Dec. 27, as Redbirds who have earned MVC Weekly awards this season.
It's the fourth time in her career Wilson has been named MVC Player of the Week and the first time since the 2021-2022 season, when she tied for the most MVC Player of the Week (3) honors that year.
Wilson willed Illinois State to a comeback win over Bradley to open MVC play last Saturday. She scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half as the performance tied her career-high and was Wilson's third outing this season with 20-plus points. The Redbirds trailed by six at the break, before Wilson scored Illinois State's first 10 points of the second half to tie the game.
She also grabbed six rebounds in the win, which put her at 700 for her Illinois State career. She became the seventh player in program history to grab 700 rebounds as a Redbird. Wilson tallied a steal and a block for a final stat line of 26 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal in 36 minutes on the floor Saturday night.
The Redbirds hit the road for the first time in MVC play with a two-game swing at Belmont Thursday and at Murray State Saturday this week.
