NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State soccer (3-7-3, 1-2-2 MVC) looks to remain unbeaten in the month of October as Indiana State (7-4-3, 2-1-2 MVC) visits Adelaide Street Field Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+.
SERIES HISTORY
The Redbirds lead the all-time series by a 21-7-1 margin, however Illinois State is looking for its first win over the Sycamores since 2019. Illinois State holds a 12-3-0 advantage over Indiana State all-time at Adelaide Street Field.
Last season Indiana State won 2-0 in Terre Haute.
MVC HONORS
Sophomore Erika Wells was named MVC Player of the Week while Eve Gricius earned Valley Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Wells assisted on all three Redbird goals last week as Illinois State went 1-0-1 in Valley play. She tallied a pair of assists in a 2-1 comeback win over Valparaiso Thursday, setting up the tying goal off a cross in the 19th minute and the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. It marked the first two assists of her collegiate career. Wells is just the second Redbird since 2019 to dish two assists in a single game and one of three Valley players to record a multi-assist performance in an MVC game this season.
On Sunday against Murray State, she set up the tying goal against the Racers in the 87th minute off a corner kick as Illinois State earned a 1-1 road result.
Gricius netted her first career goal, the game winner for Illinois State in the win over Valparaiso. She has appeared in 12 games this season for Illinois State, making one start, and is the third freshman to net a goal for the Redbirds this season.
FIRST CAREER GOALS
Three Redbirds netted their first collegiate goals last week after Eiley Henderson and Gricius scored against Valparaiso and Aniya Seymore scored at Murray State.
They joined Sammi Cenek and Chloe Cline, who scored their first career goals in the season opener Aug. 15 vs Green Bay.
