NORMAL, Ill.-- The Illinois State Swimming and Diving team will compete in the second home meet of the 2024-25 season as they host Ohio University (MAC) for a two-day meet on October 18-19. This weekend's event will be the Redbird's Pink Meet with all donations going to Breast Cancer Awareness.
FOR THE CAUSE
The Redbirds will be swimming for Breast Cancer Awareness this weekend. At Horton Pool, there will be t-shirts sold for 20 dollars. All proceeds will go directly to the OSF Healthcare Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Illinois State secured three titles against Indiana State on Friday, October 4. Eva Reyes won both the 1M (270.68) and 3M (236.85) diving events as Chloe Tyler claimed the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.88.
WEEKEND SLATE
Friday- Total of six events: 50's, all strokes, 100 IM, 200 free relay, 3M Dive.
Saturday- 16 event format, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay, 1M Dive.
REDBIRD NOTABLE FINISHES
Six athletes recorded a spot in the top five at the first home meet. This included junior Giulia Basco in the 100-yard butterfly (second, 58:06), junior Delaney Boulden in the 100-yard backstroke (third, 59.09), junior Ella Turken in the 50-yard freestyle (third, 24:34), Emma Feltzer in the 100-yard freestyle (third, 52.71), senior Sydney Hoff in the 200-yard breaststroke (fourth, 2:30.34) and rounding out the Redbirds lineup was graduate student Cassidy Carey who clocked a time in the 200-yard backstroke (second, 2:06.02).
A LOOK AT THE BOBCATS
The Ohio University Swim & Dive team recorded a victory over Mid-American Conference foe Toledo University by a score of 227-73. The Bobcats received strong performances as they collected titles in both team events which included the 1000-yard freestyle (Gabrielle McKee) and 200-yard medley relay (Allison Schrank/Casadie DiBetta/Zita Szoke and Caroline Dunigan).
AMBITION FROM HILBRANDT
Riley Hilbrandt enters her first season at Illinois State after spending the past three seasons at East Carolina. Hilbrandt is joined by Ryan McCoy (previously at UIndy) and Dallas O'Haver (at ISU since 2022).
"ISU Swim & Dive has always had consistency. This season, staying consistent will be key. I am excited for this team to be a part of a competitive conference such as the Valley," Hilbrandt said
UP NEXT
The Redbirds will hit the road for three-consecutive road meets at Southern Illinois/Illinois-Champaign (November 1), Purdue (November 22-23) and the US Open in Greensboro N.C. (December 4-7).
