Redbird Track & Field Earns 13 Event Wins As Day One Of John Couglan Invite Wraps Up

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State track & field program wrapped up the first day of the John Coughlan Invite Friday evening at Horton Field House. 

Illinois State opened the 2024-25 campaign strong as the Redbirds claimed 13 events with six wins from the women's squad and seven from the men's team. 

Junior Lindsey Miller led the Redbirds in the 60m dash with a personal best time of 7.37 to win the event. Miller capped off a 1-2-3-4 finish for Illinois State as Immaculate Daniel finished second in her first appearance as a Redbird. Miller and Daniel also entered the program's top-10 list with their times. 

Sophomore Jaiden Reed followed, securing a 1-2-3 finish for Illinois State in the men's 60m dash. Reed ran a time of 6.73, now sitting fifth on the program's top-10 list. Freshman teammate Zach Paul finished runner-up with a mark of 6.79, which was enough to also crack into Illinois State's top-10 list. Newcomer Jake Welch earned a victory in the 600m with a time of 1:22.42 in his first appearance as a Redbird. 

In the field, the men's team swept the throwing events as Sophomore Cole Stevens claimed victory in the weight throw with a throw of 17.71m (58-01.25). Sophomore Garrett Taylor followed, earning a win in the shot put with a throw of 16.99m (55-09.25). 

The Redbirds swept the men's and women's high jump events as Senior Kiley Sanders and Junior Rob Pulliam secured victories. Sanders entered the program's top-10 list with a jump of 1.74m (5-08.50) 

Illinois State also swept the men's and women's triple jump events as Sophomore Ava Lawless and Freshman Victor Byaundaombe earned wins. Lawless entered the top-10 list with a jump of 12.34m (40-06.00) which is the second-highest mark of any Redbird. 

Senior Windsor Roberts won the women's pole vault event with a vault of 3.90m (12-09.50). Roberts set the Horton Field House record.
