NORMAL, IL. - Illinois State track & field is set to send separate squads to two meets on Feb. 2 and 3. A select group of Redbirds will travel to South Bend, Indiana for the Meyo Invite, hosted by Notre Dame. Additionally, a larger group of student-athletes will stay home and compete at the Keck Select, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.
MEYO INVITE
The Redbirds last competed at the annual Notre Dame Meyo Invite in 2022. At the meet, senior Raydoffa Braziel ran a time of 1:17.30 in the 600-meter run breaking the Illinois State all-time record that was previously set in 1988. Junior Madison Saunders jumped a 12.21m in triple jump etching her name into program history at the fourth spot.
The action from Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center is set to start at 11:30 am on Friday, competition will run through Saturday afternoon.
KECK SELECT
Friday's competition from the Illinois Wesleyan Shirk Center will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon, while the rest of the running events follow and continue into Saturday.
Illinois State last competed at Illinois Wesleyan in the 2022-23 indoor season. At the Keck Select last indoor season, the Redbirds were victorious in 11 events.
Last Time Out
The Redbirds competed at the Illini Challenge in Champaign last weekend as well as the Jaguar Invite in Indianapolis where senior Brandon Ratliff broke the facility record for the 60m hurdles with 7.89 which is .04 from his all-time best. Junior Mathis Chavand etched himself in the top-10 for the men's 3,000m with 8:11.96. Sophomore Cade Ward won the men's 400m with his season-best of 50.05. The Illini Challenge brought out the best for the women's pole vaulters as they all broke their personal-best or met their season-best. Junior Madison Saunders leaped 12.19m (40-0.00) in the women's triple jump which is .2 away from her personal-best and 5th all-time.
UP NEXT
Following competition at the Meyo Invite and Keck Select, the Illinois State squad will travel to Nashville to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Feb. 9 and 10.
