DEKALB, Ill. – After a tough start on bars and beam to start the meet, the Illinois State gymnastics team went big on floor and finished strong on vault to finish in second place at Northern Illinois on Sunday inside the Convocation Center against the host Huskies, Alaska Anchorage and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Scoring Breakdown:
• Northern Illinois: 195.800
• Illinois State: 194.350
• Alaska Anchorage: 191.200
• Wisconsin-Eau Claire: 190.550
Team Notes:
• The Redbirds opened the meet on bars and struggles to a 47.575 and followed that with a 48.200 to sit in fourth place halfway through the meet.
• However, ISU came back with a fury in rotation No. 3 on the floor with a season-high tying score of 49.425 which ties for the second highest score in program history on the event.
• That moved the Redbirds back up the standing into third place headed into the final rotation, where they a 49.150 on vault to move into second place behind the Huskies as the meet ended.
Gymnast Notes:
• Angelica Labat took first in the all-around with a score of 39.175, picking up her fifth all-around victory in the last six meets for the Redbirds.
• Jaye Mack picked up an event win on floor, as she tied her season and career high with a 9.950 as the Redbirds tied their season high mark on the event. Kaitlyn Donovan also had a fantastic routine, scoring a 9.900 to tie for third place.
• The Redbirds took the top two spots on vault, with Mya Robinson finishing first with a 9.900 and Mack finishing second with a 9.875. Labat was right behind in a tie for third place with a 9.850.
• ISU also took the top two spots on beam, with Madison Kipp winning the event with a score of 9.850 and freshman Ally Lau finishing second with a 9.825.
• Freshman Reese Grolla was the top finisher on bars, finishing in second place with a 9.825 as Julia Heiner and Labat tied for fourth with matching scores of 9.725.

Illinois State is back in action on Sunday, March 3, when it travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a quad meet against the host Husker, North Carolina, and Southeast Missouri State.
