Redbirds Receive WNIT First Round Bye; Will Play Charleston/USC Upstate Winner

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team was selected to play in the 26th edition of the Postseason WNIT and received a first-round bye, the WNIT announced Monday.  

The Redbirds will face the winner of the Charleston at USC Upstate which will take place on Thursday, March 20, in the First Round. WNIT Second Round games will take place March 23-26, and Illinois State's game time, date and location will be announced following the completion of the first-round contests. 

REDBIRDS IN THE WNIT 

Illinois State (21-11) has earned four-straight postseason appearances for the first time since making seven-straight from 2006-2007 to 2012-2013. ISU is making its 15th appearance all-time in the WNIT and third under head coach Kristen Gillespie. The program is 15-9 overall in the WNIT since 2000. 

ABOUT THE WNIT 

The 2024 field features a 48-team field that includes 11 automatic qualifiers and 37 at-large selections chosen after consideration of a mix of criteria by WNIT officials. There are 24 teams with 20 or more victories in the bracket, including the Redbirds. All games will take place at campus sites, with Round 1 matchups taking place March 20-22. The 2024 Postseason WNIT will again have its championship game broadcast on CBS Sports Network, with tipoff set for Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. CT.
