Birds Heading to Wisconsin for WNIT Super 16

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Women's Basketball is set to travel to Madison, Wis. Thursday at 7 p.m. to battle Big Ten foe Wisconsin in the WNIT Super 16, the WNIT announced Monday. Once available, ticket information at Wisconsin can be found at goredbirds.com.

The Redbirds (22-11) are coming off a second-round win over Charleston Sunday at CEFCU Arena, which marks the first time since 2013 that Illinois State has advanced in the postseason. Wisconsin (14-16) took down Southern Indiana 67-62 Monday night to advance.

REDBIRDS IN THE WNIT

Illinois State (22-11) has earned four-straight postseason appearances for the first time since making seven-straight from 2006-2007 to 2012-2013. ISU is making its 14th appearance all-time in the WNIT and third under head coach Kristen Gillespie. The program is 16-9 overall in the WNIT since 2000. 

ABOUT THE WNIT

The 2024 field features a 48-team field that includes 11 automatic qualifiers and 37 at-large selections chosen after consideration of a mix of criteria by WNIT officials. There are 24 teams with 20 or more victories in the initial bracket, including the Redbirds. All games will take place at campus sites, with Round 3 matchups taking place March 27-29. The 2024 Postseason WNIT will again have its championship game broadcast on CBS Sports Network, with tipoff set for Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. CT.
