Top-10 Marks Highlight Final Day of Redbird Challenge

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State track & field squads complete day two of the Redbird Challenge with two notable top-10 marks in program history.

Redbird Challenge 

On the men's field side the Redbirds came out strong with ISU sweeping the top three in the shot put with senior Amiri Buchanan winning with a toss of 18.73m (61-5.50), which puts him third in program history. Freshman Jakob Klink finished second with a personal-best throw of 17.80 (58-4.75), seventh best in ISU history. Freshman Garrett Taylor finished third with a personal-best throw of 16.65m (54-7.50).

In the javelin, senior Josh Schmid finished 6th with a throw of 44.39 (145-07). In the long jump, Sean Hopkins won the event with a personal-best leap of 7.47m (24-6.25), which puts him fourth in program history, while freshman Brodie Squires finished second with a leap of 7.06m (23-2.00). In the pole vault, sophomore Charles Cruse won the event with a personal-best height of 5.07m (16- 7.50), which puts him tied for eighth in school history, while In the high jump sophomore Rob Pulliam tied for second with a height of 1.95m (6-4.75)

On the  track side, the Redbirds had four individual champions starting with  junior Mathis Chavand, who won the 1,500m race with a new personal-best time of 3:47.52. In the 110m hurdles, freshman Johnathan Tegal took first with a time of 15.08 seconds. In the 100m dash, freshman Jaiden Reed took first with a time of 10.571 seconds. Sophomore Enyinnaya Nwagwu finished third with a personal-best time of 10.579 seconds. In the 400m dash, junior Edward Watkins finished third with 49.96 seconds. In the 800m run, sophomore Garrett Slack finished third with a time of 1:54.80. Freshman Ryan Schaefer finished 2nd with a time of 56.83 seconds in the 400m hurdles and sophomore Cade Ward finished third with a time of 56.94 seconds, while senior Jaden Johnson took fourth with a time of 57.51 seconds.

In the 200m dash sophomore Dewayne Johnson won the race with a  personal-best time of 21.90 seconds. Junior Micheal Marrs finished second with a time of 22.12 seconds as freshman Jaiden Reed finished third with a personal-best time of 22.13 seconds. In the 4x400 relay the ISU "B" team won the relay with 3:19.85. In the 4x100 relay, the ISU "A" squad claimed first with 40.40 seconds. 

On the women's field side senior Batya Butler got the Redbirds going with her winning the shot put with a toss of 13.29m (43-7.25), while senior Morgan Wrublik finished third with a throw of 12.90m (42-4.00). In the javelin, sophomore Olivia Birge took first with a throw of 38.84m (127-05) as senior Kiley Sanders finished fouth with a personal-best throw of 36.44m (119-06). In the long jump, senior Brittney Oakley finished second with a leap of 5.65m (18-6.50).

In the high jump, senior Carly Tucker took 2nd with a height of 1.60m (5-3.00) as juniors  Ella Vacek  and Kenzie Klink tied for third with clearing a height of 1.60m (5-3.00). In the triple jump, junior Madison Saunders took second with a leap of 11.96m (39-3.00). Freshman Megan Clark finished fourth with a new personal-best leap of 11.20m (36-9.00). In the pole vault, Windsor Roberts claimed first with clearing a height of 3.88m (12-8.75). 

On the track for the women, junior Mattison Plummer started off with a win in the 1,500m race with a time of 4:31.66., and freshman Grace Erb came in right behind in second with a time of 4:34.38 while junior Vivianna Sanfilippo finished fifth with a personal-best time of 4:34.80. In the 100m hurdles, senior Hassy Fashina-Bombata claimed first with a time of 13.84 seconds as sophomore Macee Rivers finished third with a time of 13.96 seconds.

In the 100m dash, sophomore Nnenna Okpara took first with a time of  11.90 seconds and senior Mattie Lieb finished fourth with a time of 12.30 seconds. In the 400m dash freshman Chavi Flowers took sixth with a time of 58.58 seconds. In the 200m dash, junior Corrina Courser finished third with a time of 25.80 seconds. In the 5,000m run, senior Claire Fuhlhage finished second with a personal-best time of 17:05.37 and the 4x400 relay, the ISU "A" team claimed first with a time of 3:50.85. In the 4x100m relay, the ISU "B" team finished second with a time of 47.60 seconds. 



Up Next 

The Redbirds will travel to Oxford, Mississippi to compete in the Joe Walker Invite hosted by Ole Miss, with competition starting on Friday April 5.
