SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. – The Illinois State men's golf team closed its stellar 2023-24 season on Tuesday evening at the 2024 MVC Championship.
At the post-event banquet, Illinois State senior Valentin Peugnet and junior Alex McCulla earned All-MVC honors. Redbird head coach was Ray Kralis was also named the MVC Coach of the Year.
Parker Wisdom's three-round 225 was the best on the team and saw him place 27th. Felix van Dijk tied for 30th with a three-round 227, with McCulla finishing just behind with a 228 to tie for 32nd. TJ Barger's 232 saw him tie for 36th, while Peugnet tied for 43rd with a 236.
The Redbirds placed eighth overall with a three-round 907. Southern Illinois was the tournament champion with an 856 while Missouri State (864), Valparaiso (868), Murray State (879), Drake (883), Belmont (888), and Evansville (905) finished ahead of Illinois State, with ISU topping Bradley (911) and Northern Iowa (914).
Leading the way for the Redbirds on the final round was a pair of student-athletes –van Dijk and Wisdom – who each finished with a one-over 73 in the final round. Wisdom had six birdies and six pars for his round, while van Dijk had four birdies and 10 pars in his final round.
McCulla and Barger each finished with a five-over 77 to tie for third-best for the team on the day. Barger had two birdies and a dozen pars, while McCulla had an eagle on the par-four seventh hole to go with a birdie and 10 pars. Peugnet had a pair of birdies and seven pars for his final-round 82.
