TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Illinois State senior Amiri Buchanan was crowned the men's shot put champion and several other Redbirds found themselves on the podium on Saturday on day two of 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Gibson Track Complex in Terre Haute.
Buchanan earned the top spot on the podium and All-MVC honors with his personal-best throw of 19.29m (63-3.50), which puts him tied for 19th in the country currently. Elsewhere on the men's side, freshman Ryan Schaefer took third in the decathlon with a personal-best score of 6,344 total points to take home All-MVC honors. Sophomore Rob Pulliam also had a strong second day, as he took second in the high jump with a season-best height of 2.05m (6-8.75) and finished eighth in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.03m (23-00.75).
On the women's side, junior Mattison Plummer took second in the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 10:20.16, as her teammate Claire Fuhlhage took third in a time of 10:25.85 as both took home All-MVC honors. In addition to the event finals on Saturday, several other Redbirds punched their tickets to the finals in their respective events on the final day of competition on Sunday.
