Fayetteville, Ark. – Senior Amiri Buchanan punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships on the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Wednesday as six Redbirds took the track at the University of Arkansas.
On his second attempt of the day, Buchanan tossed mark of 18.58m (60-11.50) in the shot put which was good enough for him to finish 12th overall which secured his spot to compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
Also competing in the shot put was freshman Jacob Klink, who tossed a mark of 17.21m (56-5.75) to finish 34th overall. Elsewhere in the field events, sophomore Charles Cruse took 28th in the pole vault as he finished with a height of 5.07m (16-7.5) and junior Devin Turner finished 33rd in the long jump with a leap of 7.36m (24-1.25).
On the track, senior Raydoffa Braziel qualified for Friday's quarterfinals with his personal-best time of 46.06 seconds in the 400m dash, which gives him the third-best time in program history. Sophomore Dewayne Johnson took 40th in the 110m hurdles, as he crossed the finish line in 14.28 seconds.

The Redbirds will not compete on Thursday, as all three women who qualified are scheduled to compete on Saturday. The men will be back in action on Friday, including Braziel, Mathis Chavand and the 4x400m relay squad.
