EAST LANSING, Mich. – Using a program-low NCAA Regional round of 69 from Jinyoung Yun, the Illinois State graduate student climbed into a tie of 32nd overall at the 2024 NCAA East Lansing Regional.
Yun was one of just five golfers in the field with a score under 70 in the second round, while topping the previous program record for a NCAA Regional single-round score was 71 set by Stacey Miller at the 2009 NCAA Regional hosted by Ohio State.
First day team leader and sixth-ranked Southern California remained in the top spot in the strong tournament field through 36 holes with a two-round total of 570, while #8 Northwestern (572), #21 Pepperdine (573), #30 Michigan State (574), #18 Florida (576), #41 Denver (579), #32 Kentucky (580), #43 Oklahoma State (580), #62 Augusta (591), #59 Indiana (595), and Oakland (597) all stand ahead of the Redbirds in the 12-team field.
The Redbirds tee it up for the third and final round on Wednesday morning, starting at 10:05 a.m. ET (9:05 a.m. CT) at Forest Akers West Golf Course just off the Michigan State campus.
Yun opened her day with a spectacular front nine that saw her card a trio of birdies and six pars, making the turn at three shots under par. In her back nine she dipped as low as four shots under par, before finishing with a three-under 69 in the strong field.
Ali Schrock's second-round 76 has her tied for 38th in the field, as she had two birdies and 11 pars, and is four shots over par through the opening 36 holes in the tournament.
Avalon Woodward and Michaela Kverkova had 12 and 11 pars, respectively, in their rounds, to finish at 78 and 79 for the round, as the pair are sitting 60th and 61st, each, in the field. Dani Grace Schrock came in as an alternate for the second round and carded a 10-over 82 for her first collegiate NCAA Regional round.
