Pair of Redbirds Throwers Set To Compete At USATF U20 Championships

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State track & field throwers Jacob Klink and Garrett Taylor have both been selected to participate in the prestigious USATF U20 Championships June 12-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Taylor will be the first to compete on Wednesday, June 12, when he competes in the men's discuss at 6 p.m. CT. He will then join Klink in the men's shot put competition the following day at 8 p.m. CT. 

Klink represented the Redbirds at the NCAA West Prelims at Arkansas, as the freshman earned his spot in the regional with a a personal-best mark of 17.80m (58-4.75) at the annual Redbird Challenge which currently ranks him sixth in program history in the shot put. He would go on to toss a mark of 17.21m (56-5.75) to finish 34th overall at the regional in his first postseason NCAA meet appearance.

Taylor earned All-MVC honors in both the shot put and the discus in his first year as a Redbird, as he finish third in the discus with a mark of 49.88m (163-8) and sixth in the shot put with a toss of 16.56m (54-4). He posted a career-best in the shot put of 17.03m (55-10.5) at the 114th Drake Relays and recorded a personal best in the discus of 51.58m (169-3) at the Gary Wieneke Memorial.
