Buchanan, Plummer Set To Compete At NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Illinois State track & field standouts Amiri Buchanan and Mattison Plummer will represent the Redbirds on a national stage this week, as the duo are set to compete in the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships which begin Wednesday afternoon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Buchanan and Plummer both secured their spots at the National Championship thanks to strong performances at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Arkansas two weekends ago. Buchanan will be first up when the men start things off on Wednesday night, with Plummer taking the track on day one of the women's competition on Thursday.

Outside of the ESPN television schedule, there will be specific ESPN+ links for all field events and multis. Day one coverage on ESPN2 begins at 6:30 p.m. CT.

•    On his second attempt of the day, Buchanan tossed mark of 18.58m (60-11.50) in the shot put at the NCAA West Prelims in Arkansas. That mark was good enough for him to finish 12th overall in the region which secured his spot at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
•    Buchanan qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round after tossing a mark of 19.12m (62-8.75) at the Badger Challenge.
•    He was crowned champion at the 2024 MVC Outdoor Championships with his first-place mark of 19.29m (63-3.5) and currently holds the third best mark in program history.

Mattison Plummer | Thursday, June 6 | 8:00 PM | 3,000m Steeplechase
•    Plummer finished seventh overall at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Arkansas to qualify for the NCAA Championship with a personal-best time of 10:11.55 in the steeplechase, moving her up the school's top 10 list to sixth best all-time.
•    She qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round with her performance at the Drake Relays, where she took first in the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 10:12.83, which was seventh best in program history.
•    Plummer finished on the podium and took second at the 2024 MVC Outdoor Championships
