SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- Illinois State advances three as day one of the 67th ITA Collegiate Invitational concludes with a deep field of USC, UC-Riverside, Kennesaw State, University of San Diego, Utah State, and the University of Arizona.
In singles play, the Birds collected three wins as Tomas Valencia knocked off San Diego's Kasday in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) ISU's Caden Scarlett defeated UCR's Aarav Sane 7-5, 6-4, Valencia rounded out singles play after securing a 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 mark against Bradley from the University of Southern California.
In doubles play, Tom Bevan and Jett Leong battled Justin Lamy, Aarav Sane of University of California-Riverside but came up short as they fell by a 6-3 mark. At the No. 2 doubles spot Scarlett and Tomas Valencia were bested by Connor Church (USC) and Anthony Weingarten (KSU) in a 6-2 set defeat.
The Birds will resume action tomorrow at 3 p.m. inside Skip and Cindy Tennis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego.
