JACKSONVILLE, Nev. – The Illinois State women's golf team capped play in the first day of the Sea Best Intercollegiate in a big way, topping the school record for lowest single-round in program history, and the Birds head into the final 18 holes tied with Florida for the top spot in the field.
The 279 is two strokes better than the previous single-round, set during the fall season on September 8 and October 22.
The Redbirds' two-round 569 is tied with Florida for the top spot in the field on the team side, with third place (South Alabama) sitting seven strokes behind. Florida Gulf Coast (580), Coastal Carolina (582), Florida Southern (587), Jacksonville (587), Stetson (588), Richmond (590), Daytona State (592), Navy (592), Seminole State (605), USC Upstate (614), Lipscomb (627), and Holy Cross (640) round out the 15 schools in the tournament field.
Freshman Jessica Jolly was ISU's top finisher on the opening day, tying the single-round school freshman record with a career-low 69 in the opening round and heads to the final day tied for first individually. Chasing her down is Jinyoung Yun, who had rounds of 74 and 69, and is -1 through 36 holes, good for 11th place in the tournament field.
Lory Paradis played an even pair of rounds, carding an even-par 72 on each of her first two rounds of the tournament, and her 144 is tied for 12th with 18 holes to play. Elise Fennell, also a freshman, tied the school single-round record for a freshman in the second round with a 69, and her one-over 145 through 36 holes is tied for the 16th-best score in the tournament. Morgan Jones had even rounds of 73 and 73, one stroke over par each, and is tied for 21st with one day left in the tournament.
The Redbirds take back for the final round tomorrow afternoon alongside Florida and South Alabama.
