SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Valley Conference league office has announced this week's (10/7) women's soccer players of the week. Redbird Freshman Grace Petrie was named this week's MVC Freshman of the Week.
Petrie received her first career MVC recognition, joining teammate Rylann Law as the two Redbirds to earn a Freshman of the Week honor. Illinois State has now had a player recognized for a weekly award for the sixth consecutive week, which is the longest streak for the Redbirds since 2019. Petrie also joins Sophomore Kaya Durkee and Senior Jade Rehberger as Redbird defenders to earn a weekly recognition.
In Sunday's draw, Petrie logged 90 minutes in the contest for the 10th straight game this season. Petrie leads all Redbird freshmen with 1191 minutes played this season, which ranks third on the entire team.
Petrie played a pivotal role in the Redbirds' back line in maintaining the Illinois State shutout. Illinois State has recorded eight shutouts this season and now ranks eighth in the entire country for the most shutouts. In their last six games, the Redbirds have tallied a clean sheet in five of those contests.
