Knudsen Named MVC Newcomer of the Week for the Third Time

ST LOUIS – Illinois State's Elyce Knudsen earned her third MVC Newcomer of the Week honor of the year, as announced by the league office on Monday. She reached double-figures in a pair of outings last week, leading the Redbirds road to wins over Indiana State and Evansville.  

Knudsen averaged 16.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game on 13-for-28 (46.4%) shooting from the floor and a 6-for-12 mark from deep across two performances last week. She put up 19 points and 6 rebounds Saturday against the Purple Aces on 8-for-16 shooting from the floor. The outing, which was the most points by a newcomer in a single game last week, followed a performance of 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks Thursday at Indiana State.  

She is averaging 13.5 points per game and 3.2 rebounds for the Redbirds this season on 45.1% shooting from the field and a mark of 39.8% from deep. Knudsen has reached double figures in 15 outings, including five performances of 20+ points.  

It marks the sixth time this season a Redbird has won MVC Newcomer of the Week, the most of any Valley team. Addison Martin also has three MVC Newcomer of the Week honors on the season.
