NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State track & field program wrapped up day one of the Normal Invite Friday afternoon at the Redbird Track & Field Complex.
Sophomore Adison Scott opened the weekend with a season best throw of 48.88m (160-4) in the hammer throw to finish second. Freshman Brianna Brodie tallied a personal best throw of 42.82m (140-5) in a sixth-place effort.
On the men's side, Sophomore Cole Stevens won the men's hammer throw with a personal best mark of 55.70m (182-9. Senior Josh Schmid rounded out a 1-2 finish for the Redbirds after recording a throw of 53.50m (175-6). Junior Anthony Smith notched a fourth place finish with a throw of 49.25m (161-7).
In the only event on the track on Friday for the Redbirds, Junior Nnenna Okpara recorded a season-best in the 200m with a time of 24.26. Illinois State claimed the top five spots as Freshman K'Leigh Saenz (25.19) and Freshman Layla Lerus (25.29) earned personal best times.
