BADAJOZ, Spain — Illinois State triple jumper and Madrid native Astor Snaider competed at the Spanish U20 Championships over the weekend and finished runner-up with a mark of 15.31m.
"We're very excited to see Astor back healthy and competing with confidence," said Illinois State Track & Field Associate Head Coach DeShaun Jordan. "His 15.31m jump and second-place finish is a great step forward for him. Although we know he wanted to win, this is a strong step in the right direction. We're proud of his performance and having him bring that mindset and energy back to our team will only make us stronger."
Snaider has previous experience competing on the national level. He won the triple jump at last year's Spanish U20 Championships with a personal-best mark of 15.48m. He notched runner-up finishes at the U16 Spanish Championships in 2021 and the U18 Spanish Championships in 2022, while earning a bronze medal in the U18 event in 2023.
Snaider competed in eight total events during his freshman season with the Redbirds. He placed in the top five at five different meets, including runner-up finishes at the John Coughlan Invite (indoor), Coughlan-Malloy Cup (indoor) and Senior Spotlight (outdoor). Snaider took third at the 2025 MVC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a triple jump of 14.66m. He improved upon that mark with a season-best jump of 14.86m to earn fourth at the 2025 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
