Redbirds Finish Second On The Road To Central Michigan

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State and Central Michigan were both looking to keep momentum going after wins last week in their dual meet on Saturday in Mount Pleasant. It was host Central Michigan that would come out on top, as the Chippewas picked up a 194.900-193.625 win over the Redbirds on Saturday night at the McGuirk Arena. 

Scoring Breakdown:
•    Central Michigan: 194.900
•    Illinois State: 193.625

Thoughts From Coach Ringer:
"I was proud of how our team fought until the end tonight. They showed determination and adaptability in numerous situations, staying together and having each other's backs throughout."

Team Notes:
•    Illinois State started the meet on bars and posted a solid score of 48.475 to push momentum to the vault.
•    In rotation No. 2, the Redbirds went 48.350 on vault as they trailed the Chippewas as the midway point.
•    On the floor in rotation No. 3, ISU posted its highest event score of the season at 48.600 as it moved to the final rotation.
•    The Redbirds closed out the meet with a 48.200 on beam to cap off the meet.

Gymnast Notes:
•    Sammie Wolff tied for the event win on vault with a score of 9.825, with Savannah Ray also posting a solid score of 9.700 to tie for sixth place.
•    On bars, freshman Jercy Koliego posted a career-high with a 9.800 to place fourth overall just ahead of senior Julia Heiner in sixth with a 9.725.
•    Ally Lau took the solo event win on the beam, as she posted a 9.825 while Courtney Woods and Leah Davis posted Top 5 finishes with scores of 9.750 to tie for fifth place.
•    Davis was also a standout on the floor, as she tied for second with a 9.825 and Jaly Jones continued her solid performances on the floor as she tied for third with a 9.800.

Up Next:
Illinois State is back in action next Sunday, February 1, when the Redbirds compete in a quad meet hosted by Southeast Missouri State. In addition to the hosts, the Redbirds will compete against Ball State and UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. inside Houck Field House.
