RIO VERDE, Ariz. – With all five ISU golfers carding scores of 76 or better, the Illinois State women's golf team climbed five spots on the second day at the Rio Verde Collegiate, with an opportunity to climb further on the third and final day of the tournament tomorrow.
Xavier has climbed out to a six-stroke lead on the field with a two-round score of 585, while Bradley (591), Bowling Green (595), and Wichita State (595) chase the Musketeers. Ball State (599), Missouri State (600), Ohio (603), Utah Tech (603), South Dakota (604), tournament host Western Michigan (605), and Creighton (606), are all just ahead of ISU's 612. The Redbirds are tied with Kennesaw State in 12th place, while Oakland (613), Akron (616), Central Michigan (618), Loyola Chicago (621), and Butler (627) are chasing the Birds.
Leading the way for the Redbirds on the second day was senior Dani Grace Schrock, who used two birdies and 13 pars to finish the day with a one-over 73, as she climbed 26 spots in the individual field into 54th place with 18 holes to play.
Reagan Kennedy and Elise Fennell each had two-over 74's on the day, Kennedy with three birdies and 10 pars, Fennell with three birdies and 11 pars. Kennedy is tied for 34th place, while Fennell is in 46th.
Redbird first-round leader Alex Sparrow and newcomer Reagan Braker each shot a four-over 76, with Sparrow using three birdies and 10 pars, and Braker two birdies and 11 pars. Sparrow heads into the final round in a tie of 34th place, while Braker is in 83rd.
