RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Led by day one leader Alex Sparrow, the Illinois State women's golf team tied for 14th overall at the Rio Verde Intercollegiate.
Sparrow carded a three-over 75 including five birdies to tie for 27th. Reagan Braker carded a score of 77, her second consecutive round of 77 or lower, her two lowest scores of her college career.
Illinois State, with a team score of 822, finished tied with Central Michigan, and ahead of Loyola-Chicago, Oakland, and Butler. Bradley (885), Xavier (889), Missouri State (893), Bowling Green (893), Wichita State (901), Ball State (901), Kennesaw State (905), Ohio (906), tournament host Western Michigan (906), Akron (908), Creighton (910), Utah Tech (914), and South Dakota (917) all finished ahead of ISU.
Sparrow's 27th place finish was the best on the team, as she had rounds of 76, 76, and 75 for her 227. Reagan Kennedy carded a final-round 79 for a 54-hole score of 231 to tie for 44th, while Elise Fennell's final-round 79 saw her finish with a 232, tying for 50th.
Dani Grace Schrock tied for 72nd with a three-round 237, with Braker tying for 80th with a 54-hole score of 239.
The Redbirds tee it back up again on March 1, when the team travels to Aiken, South Carolina, to compete at the three-day More Than Golf Invitational, hosted by Augusta at Old Barnwell Country Club.
