Redbirds Open Play in South Carolina

AIKEN, S.C. – The Illinois State women's golf team opened play at the More Than Golf Invitational and have set themselves up for a steep climb up the leaderboard in day two of the three-day event.

Columbia leads the field through one round with a 291 on the par-73 course, with Tulsa (294), Denver (299), Radford (302), Southern Miss (303), Morehead State (305), Augusta (305), Richmond (310), Fairleigh Dickinson (314), Oakland (320), Alabama State (324), and Illinois State (330) chase the Lions atop the leaderboard.

Leading the way for ISU was Alex Sparrow, who used a birdie and a dozen pars en route to her five-over 78, tied for 31st individually, while her 12 pars are tied for the third-most in the field.

Elise Fennell opened with a six-over 79 and led the team with three birdies while adding eight pars on the day, and her three birdies are tied for the ninth-most in the tournament, as she is tied for 42nd a third of the way through the tournament.

Reagan Kennedy's opening-round 85 has her tied for 56th in the field, while Reagan Braker and Dani Grace Schrock shot matching 88's, tied for 59th overall.

The Redbirds return tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. CT for the second round alongside Denver and Augusta.
