HOLLISTER, Mo. – Led by Elise Fennell's four-over 76, the Illinois State women's golf team closes the first day of the Ozarks National Invitational in 10th place with two rounds to play in the tournament.
Tournament host Missouri State leads the field through the opening 18 holes with a 303, while South Dakota (308), UTEP (312), Indiana State (313), and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (314) round out the top five. West Florida (314), South Dakota State (315), Oklahoma City (318), and Merrimack (320) are all just ahead of ISU's 323, while Northern Iowa (326), Lindenwood (327), Drury (327), and McLennan CC (329) round out the 14 schools in the tournament.
Fennell's 76 is tied for 10th in the tournament field, as she had two birdies and a dozen pars in the opening round.
Reagan Kennedy had a birdie and 10 pars for a seven-over 79, which is tied for 28th, while Alex Sparrow had a pair of birdies and eight pars, finishing nine strokes over par with an 81, and tied for 38th.
Senior Dani Grace Schrock had nine pars during her 15-over round of 87, while Reagan Braker recorded ISU's second hole-in-one in as many tournaments, while adding five pars for a 17-over 89.
The Redbirds return to the course tomorrow morning for the second of three rounds at the event.
