NORMAL, Ill. – Off to its first 4-0 start since the 2017 season, the Illinois State football team has jumped to No. 3 in this week's Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. The Redbirds remained in the No. 4 spot in AFCA FCS Coaches Poll again this week.
Illinois State has now appeared in every Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll for 35-straight weeks, the sixth-longest active streak in the FCS. ISU also picked up its only first-place vote of the year, marking the first time all year that Montana State has not been a unanimous No. 1 pick.
The Redbirds are among six teams from the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the polls, with South Dakota State coming in at No. 2 in both polls just a week before their matchup against Illinois State in Normal on Oct. 3. Illinois State and North Dakota find themselves in the Top 10 in both polls as well, with South Dakota ranked as high as No. 8 in the Stats Perform poll. Youngstown State (11/13) is ranked just outside the Top 10 in both polls, while Southern Illinois cracked into the Stats Perform poll at No. 23 to give the MVFC six ranked programs heading into the first full week of conference play.
No. 3/4 Illinois State (4-0) will open Missouri Valley Football Conference on Saturday at Northern Iowa (1-2), with kickoff set for 4 p.m. CT at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
