NORMAL, Ill. -- Illinois State swim & dive opens its season under first-year head coach Ryan Evans with a home meet against Quincy University on Friday at 4 p.m. CT at Horton Pool. Fans can follow live results by visiting this link. Please note: Results will not be posted on MeetMobile.Â
The Redbirds and Hawks will meet for the third consecutive season. Illinois State won last year's meet 180-82 after earning a 174-80 victory in 2024.
"This is a great opportunity to swim against another Illinois school and kickstart our season," said Evans. "Looking at their roster, they have some Illinois kids, some from across the U.S. and a good amount of international kids, as well, so I'm looking forward to having them back for a third year."
SCOUTING QUINCY
Quincy is an NCAA Division II team competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks opened their season with a conference meet against Truman State, falling 117-87. Alice Contiliano led the Hawks in the pool with wins in the 100 Free and 1000 Free, while Florence Lebeau earned gold in the 100 Breast.
LOOKING BACK
Illinois State is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Three Redbirds -- Mia Snow, Delaney Boulden and Chloe Tyler -- earned All-MVC honors, and 11 student-athletes qualified for finals in their respective events.Â
THIS YEAR'S SQUAD
The Redbirds returned 14 student-athletes from last year's squad and welcomed four freshmen to campus, including Freya Hingston, Molly Allison, Julia Bartula and Martyna Dobek.
"The theme I've been talking to the team about is just racing, not worrying about what the final time is and just getting on the blocks with the goal of beating the person next to them. I'm hoping to see fearless, aggressive racing," said Evans. "Whenever you have a first meet like this, you want to find out the little things that we're missing, like if we need to work on our turns or our starts and where we need to put some more emphasis in training these next few weeks. I don't expect them to have perfect races and execute everything perfectly, but we should come out of this meet with two to three things that we need to get better at for next weekend and before the end of the year."
