MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Max Faucquez finished with a two-under 70 while Fernando Cobo Delgado was also under par with a 71 as the Illinois State Redbirds head into the final round at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate looking to climb the leaderboard on Tuesday morning.
The Redbirds have a 36-hole score of 581 and are within 11 strokes of climbing into the top five overall. Tournament host Coastal Carolina leads the two-round field with a 557, with Elon (558), Lipscomb (559), Campbell (567), and UTSA (570) rounding out the top five, while Stetson (571), Kennesaw State (571), Florida Atlantic (572), Jacksonville (574), Jacksonville State (580), UNCW (580), and Appalachian State (580) all have the Redbirds aiming for them in the final round. East Carolina (582), Winthrop (585), and North Alabama (593) close out the 16 schools in the field.
Faucquez had five birdies and 10 pars for his second-round 70 and has a one-under-par 143 for the tournament, tying him for 26th. He is averaging 2.75 strokes per par three on the round (-2 aggregate score), which is the third-best par three scoring average in the tournament.
Freshman Fernando Cobo Delgado finished with two birdies, a bogey, and 15 pars for his one-under 71, and his 28 pars through 36 holes are the fifth most in the field. He and Sam Ottwell – who is also +3 for the tournament – are tied for 48th. Ottwell had a birdie and 11 pars for his second-round 79.
Newcomers Gabriele Bravin and Rayden Tee finished with rounds of 80 and 81, as Bravin had 14 pars on his round, and Tee two birdies and eight pars, with Bravin standing in a tie for 65th, and Tee in a tie for 77th. Gonzalo Cuellar finished with a three-over 75, using two birdies and 11 pars, while his 4.38 average is tied for the eighth-best par-five scoring average in the tournament.
The Redbirds tee off starting at 6:45 a.m. CT for the final round, alongside East Carolina and Winthrop off of the 10th tee box.
