Nutrition

Nutrition

The goal of Illinois State Sports Nutrition is the education of our student-athletes on the importance of nutrition as it pertains to a competitive lifestyle. Specifically we seek to optimize performance and provide fuel sources for intense physical and mental preparation. We are taking a multi-faceted approach to our educational process that is founded on providing consistent, evidence-based principles of nutrition, respective to their sport. Understanding this component of athletic development will allow our student-athletes to continue to accomplish their goals in competition.

Our nutrition program is based on straight forward guidelines that are divided up into five groups which our athletes know as, "The Fundamental Five."

These include (in no particular order):

  1. Hydration
  2. Protein
  3. Performance Nutrition
  4. Meal Frequency
  5. Fruits and Vegetables

Christian Carter, Illinois State's Director of Sports Nutrition, and his nutrition staff works closely with all student-athletes, sport coaches, strength coaches, athletic trainers and administration to continue the education and provision of nutrition services to Illinois State athletics.

Here at Illinois State you will find that our program prioritizes on meeting the needs of each athlete. Whether the emphasis is strength/power, weight gain, weight loss, proper hydration or just overall health, ISU Sports Nutrition is dedicated to optimizing our athlete's performance.
