The Illinois State University Athletic Performance program strives to provide student-athletes with the optimal environment for performance enhancement and injury prevention. This is accomplished through a holistic approach to physical development that specifically targets each sport’s needs. In order to assist student-athletes in reaching their full physical potential, our staff will design and implement annual training programs to target developmental qualities and balance stresses of the competitive calendar. These methods will allow student-athletes to express peak performance at the most critical time, their championship season.
Exercise selection will include large, multi-joint, ground-based movements that build a foundation of movement abilities and strength development to serve as a starting point to assemble upon over time. Exercise progressions will be in place so as an athlete has mastered one, a more complex movement can be implemented if required. The parameters of volume, intensity, and exercise selection will be modified across the sport season to accomplish the planned adaptations at the appropriate period of time.
