Woods Out for Redbirds

Sophomore Pierre Woods of the Illinois State mens track and field team is out indefinitely for the indoor season after suffering a dislocated ankle at the Early Bird Classic on Friday. As he was warming up for the high jump, Woods landed awkwardly, dislocating his ankle severely. An All-Missouri Valley outdoor selection last season as a freshman, Woods was to be a top performer for the Redbirds this season in the hurdle events, high jump and the 400. Hes one of the best athletes on campus, and its a bummer that he got hurt before he had a chance to do anything, said head coach Jeff Pigg. My first five minutes as a head coach didnt go as smoothly as I had expected, but hell bounce back. His mom said that he drank a lot of milk as a kid and has come through from injuries before. Every team has setback, and other people have to rally and step up. I think weve got some people who are anxious to do just that.
