After winning the Missouri Valley Conference title in the mile, Illinois State junior
Christian Goy has his sights set on winning the national title at the NCAA Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
Goy was named the MVC Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete after winning the mile with a time of 4:02.10 and anchoring the winning distance medley relay.
Hes had a tremendous year, head coach
Jeff Pigg said. For having some great performances, he has been awarded a trip to the NCAA meet.
Goy, who placed 12th in the 1,500 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season, did not train last week with a sore back, but Pigg does not seem to think Goys performance will be stifled.
He had a good workout yesterday and his confidence level is up again, Pigg said. Hes really excited and ready to go.
Preliminaries for the mile are scheduled to be run at 6:40 p.m. Friday evening with finals Saturday afternoon at the University of Arkansas.
