Distance runners Stacia Beste, Christian Goy, Lars Juhl, Peter Madsen and Mark Reed all turned in strong performances Saturday and Sunday at the Stanford Invitational. Beste clocked a personal best 34:33.56 in the womens 10,000 and Goy broke his school record in the mens 1,500 with a time of 3:42.19.
Beste met the NCAA qualifying time, by running the 11th fastest 10,000 meters in the nation this season. Her time bettered her previous personal best of 36:05.
Stacia had a tremendous performance, head coach Jeff Pigg said. She beat several all-Americans and has one of the best times in the nation to show for it.
Goy also qualified for the NCAA championship in the mens 1,500, clocking the third best time in the nation this year with a school-record 3:42.19.
Juhl and Reed both participated in the mens 10,000, posting sub-30 minute times. Juhl placed 39th with a time 29:43.07, while Reed finished 47th at 29:56.63.
Their times really speak well for where theyre at right now, Pigg said of the 10,000 times posted by Juhl and Reed. Having two guys with times under 30 minutes already this season really looks good for the program.
The Illinois State track and field teams return to action mid-week, when they participate at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, Wednesday and Thursday.
