Goy Named Valley/Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Christian Goy was named the Male Missouri Valley Conference/Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks following his performance in the indoor mile at the 12th Annual Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, February 9. The Rheinsburg, Germany, native clocked the Valleys fastest time to date this season in the event with a 4:03.05. The time also provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile. He finished fourth in the nation in the indoor mile last season with a time of 3:59.61. Goy, a senior, is majoring in management and has a 3.43 cumulative grade-point-average. In addition to Goy, Illinois State seniors Robert Breit and Stacia Beste have also received Scholar-Athlete of the Week recognition in November, 2001 for their performances at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Greenville, S.C. The Valleys Scholar-Athlete program honors conference scholar-athlete performance for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom. The program began during the 1999-2000 academic year. The criteria for being named a Valley/Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete include having a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore academic standing and have completed at least one full academic year at their insititution.
