JaRod Tobler finished eighth in the long jump with a mark of 23-9 and Brittney Hourd was eleventh with a jump of 17-10 3/4 in the same event for the women to highlight the Illinois State track and field teams in day one of competition at the Iowa State Invitational Friday in Ames, Iowa.
Joe Drevlow finished 17th in the weight throw (54-11 1/4) and Bryan Smith ran the 200 meters in 22.21 seconds, good for 22nd place. Michael Estlund rounded out the men's competition with a time of 15:53.95 in the 5,000 meters.
On the women's side, Melanie Zimmerman was 29th in the long jump, behind Hourde (16-8 1/2) and Tori Gaumer was 11th in the pole vault (11-0 1/4). Lian Lucas finished 35th in the 200 meters for Illinois State with a time of 25.92
The teams return to the track tomorrow for the final day of competition.
