Andrea Mosher, a freshman from Ann Arbor, Mich., on the Illinois State track and field team qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles after placing fifth at the Mideast Regional in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday night.
Mosher ran the event in 1:00.45 to advance to the national championships being held in Sacramento, Calif., in June. She is joined by Geregly Bata of the Redbird men's team who qualified for the NCAA Championships Friday in the high jump.
"Andrea did an outstanding job in the 400-meter hurdles," head coach Elvis Forde said. "She didn't run her best race in the finals but she got the job done and is advancing as a freshman. That is a huge feat and we are extremely proud of her and the rest of the team for their performances this weekend."
The women's 4x400 relay team finished 16th in the final race of the evening. The four-athlete team of Cherise Devers, Andrea Black, Brittney Hourd and Mosher ran the race in a time of 3:49.53.
On the men's side, JaRod Tobler placed 24th in the men's triple jump with a mark of 47-11 3/4 while Chivas Hemphill placed 28th in the same event at 47-0 1/4. Rhett Hillard rounded out Saturday's competition in the shot put, finishing tenth with a throw of 56-1.
The NCAA Championships are being hosted by California State and are scheduled to start June 11 and run through June 14.
