Fuller and the Birds Finish Fourth at Shootout at the Legends

Despite Kaila Fullers tie for fourth place the Illinois State womens golf team was not able to hold on to their lead in the Shootout at the Legends after day one and fell into a fourth place tie with Kent State. The Redbirds finished with a three-round total of 915 (295, 306, 314). Fuller played three consistent rounds to finish with her best three-round total this season. She completed the tournament with a 226 (76,75,75). Behind Fuller were teammates Ashlie Rose, who tied for 11th with a 228 (73,75,80). Samantha Richdale tied for 19th place with a 232 (72,78,82), Katie Laehn tied for 28th with a 238 (74,86,78) and Ashlee Johnson tied for 42nd with a 243 (83,79,81). Rounding out the lineup for the Redbirds was Sarah Loomis, who finished the tournament with a 250 (87,78,85), leaving her in 61st place. Notre Dame took first place with a 901, while Michigan finished second with a 913 and Campbell finished third with a 914. Behind the Redbirds were Illinois in sixth with a 923, Toledo in seventh with a 926 and Wisconsin in eighth with a 929. Rounding out the tournament were Minnesota, Indiana, Eastern Michigan and IUPUI. Head coach Ray Kralis was disappointed, but feels the Birds can learn from this experience and take it with them for their next tournament. We had a great first round, struggled a little in the second and in the third we just couldnt hang on, said Kralis. But even though today wasnt our day, we have to keep our heads up and use this experience to come back even stronger in our tournament next weekend. The Redbirds return to action on Monday Oct. 11 the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. ###
