The Redbirds in Fifth Place After Day One

After a challenging day on the course, the Illinois State womens golf team looks to improve in tomorrows rounds. After two rounds of play at the Mary Fossum Invitational, the Redbirds are in fifth place. The Birds shot 314 in round one and a 305 in round two, with a total of 619. Katie Laehn is in second place after first two rounds. Laehn carded a 74 in round one and a 74 in round two for a two-round total of 148. Head coach Ray Kalis is happy with Laehns performance after day one. Katie came here to play, and that is exactly what she did, said Kralis. She had two great rounds and we are looking for another great one tomorrow. Behind Laehn are teammates Samantha Richdale tied for seventh place with a 153 (78,75), and Ashlee Johnson tied for 27th place with a tworound total of 157 (80,77). Ashlie Rose is tied for 40th place with a 160 (80,80), followed by Chelsea Bach tied for 45th place with a 161 (82,79). Kaila Fuller is close behind with a 164 (84,80). Michigan is leading the tournament with a tworound total of 609, the host Michigan State is close behind with a 612. In third is University of Wisconsin with a 613, Northwestern is in fourth with a 615 and ISU in fifth place with a 619. Kralis feel that with some improvements the team has a great chance to make up some missed rounds. We did not have the best start, but we made a great comeback in round two, said Kralis. We are going to have to have a good team effort and strong play tomorrow, and I am confident that we can do it. The Redbirds return to action on Sunday morning to finish the third and final round. ###
