Freshman Stacey Miller led the Illinois State women's golf team in the third-round with a score of 76 and helped the Redbirds secure a sixth-place finish at the Lady Irish Invitational.
Assistant coach Pina Gentile was very pleased with Miller's third-round performance.
"It was wonderful that she was able to come back today and put up a solid round," Gentile said.
Illinois State finished with a three-round total of 936 (306, 307, 323). They were only eight shots back from placing in the top three and 17 shots back off the lead.
Hilary Anderson led the Redbirds with a three-round total of 229 (72, 76, 81) and tied for fifth individually. Tiffany Hockensmith was right behind her with a 232 (74, 79, 79) and tied for 11th. Olivia Campos shot a 240 (79, 74, 87) and tied for 31st. Miller tied for 37th with a total of 242 (86, 80, 76), followed by Britt Knutson who shot a 248 (81, 78, 89) and finished 53rd individually.
Cincinnati clinched the first place spot with a three-round total of 919 (310, 306, 303). Notre Dame took second place with a 925 (306, 306, 313). Eastern Michigan placed third with a total of 928 (307, 314, 307) followed by Toledo (fourth) and Western Michigan (fifth). One shot behind Illinois State was Iowa with a three-round total of 942 (313, 312, 317) followed by Xavier (eighth), Wyoming (ninth). Illinois and Wichita State tied for 10th. Rounding out the field was Georgetown (12th), Columbia (13th) and IPFW (14th).
"We will take away the positives and work on the things that will help the team improve," Gentile said.
The Redbirds are scheduled to play next at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence
