CARBONDALE, Ill. - Freshman Laura Harris led the Illinois State women's golf team shooting a 75 at the Saluki Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Course Sunday.

"That is a great round on this course," said head coach Ray Kralis. "It is great to see Laura back again, and off to a great start this spring."

After first-round play the Redbirds are tied with Eastern Michigan in second-place after they each shot a 307.

Harris led the Redbird lineup and sits tied for fourth-place. Sophomore Tiffany Hockensmith and freshman Britt Knutson shot a 77 and finished in a tie for eighth. Senior Hilary Anderson sits in a tie for 13th after she tallied a score of 78. Just one shot back freshman Stacey Miller (79) finished in a tie for 17th. Sophomore Marci Hill shot 87 and tied for 61st. Competing individually freshman Christine Larson tallied an 82 and tied for 36th, while senior Olivia Campos shot an 89 and tied for 72nd.

"I was very pleased with how the ladies managed themselves on the golf course," said Kralis. "They are doing a great job of staying in the game and not letting adversity slow them down or shake their confidence.

"These ladies have been recruited to Illinois State for a reason. Even though we have a young squad as far as the number of years they have been here, they are not new to the golf course."

Host Southern Illinois led the field and shot a 303. Murray State finished eight shots behind the `Birds with a 315 in fourth. Bradley tallied a score of 316 and sits in fifth, while Eastern Illinois shot a 324 and ended the first round in sixth.

Kralis looks for the team to finish strong in their final round tomorrow. "From a team standpoint there will be a great opportunity for us tomorrow," said Kralis. "I am really looking forward to it. The team is fired up about it and anxious to continue moving forward as we look to tomorrow and beyond."

The Redbirds will compete in the final round Monday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
