GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
Led by a first-round-score of 71 by sophomore Laura Harris, the Illinois State women's golf team is in a second-place tie, after firing a first-round-total-of 308 at the Gainesville Shootout III hosted by Florida at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, a par-70, 5,907 yard track on the campus of Florida.
Along with Harris, who is in third place, redshirt sophomore Marisa Milligan is also in the top-10 after posting a round-one-total of 75. As a team, the Redbirds are seven strokes behind team leader, Texas State who tallied a first-round-total of 301.
"Although we had a few girls play well, it was a tough day for us," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Laura really played well but we had a few girls who were not feeling well."
Nicole Schachner of Florida is currently tied for first individually with Lindsay Davis of Michigan. Texas State has a seven-stroke lead over both Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Illinois State.
Tee times for Friday are scheduled for an 8:45 a.m. EST shotgun start.
