Miller Leads Redbirds on Day One at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Led by sophomore Stacey Miller, the Illinois State Redbirds currently reside in a fourth-place tie at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Ariz. Miller fired a one-under 71 on day one and is just three strokes behind the individual leader.

As a team, Illinois State recorded a first-round-total of 300, the team's lowest total of the season. The Redbirds were able to get solid scoring at the Rio Verde Country Club's par-72, 6,613 yard Quail Run Course, one of two 18-hole courses at the Rio Verde Country Club.

Two other Redbirds also finished day-one action in the top-30, as redshirt sophomore Marisa Milligan is currently tied for 14th after firing a 74 in her debut-round as a member of the Illinois State squad, and junior co-captain Marci Hill is in a 27th place tie after tallying a first-round-total of 76.

Texas Tech leads the 18-team, 56-hole event, as the Red Raiders recorded a round-one-team-total of 291. The individual lead is also held by a member of the Texas Tech team as Ulrika van Niekerk posted a round-one-total of 68.

Round two gets under way Saturday, Mar. 8 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The final 18 holes are also scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
