Tobler's Olympic Journey Comes to an End

EUGENE, Org. - Former Illinois State track and field athlete JaRod Tobler's journey to the 29th Summer Olympiad in Beijing has come to an end, as he finished sixth in the finals of the long jump at the 2008 Olympic Trials at Hayward Field, in Eugene, Org., Sunday.

The 2004 ISU alumnus launched a distance of 26 feet, 6.50 inches. Trevell Quinley won the event with a distance of 27-05.25. Trevell, along with Brian Johnson (27-02.75) and Miguel Pate (26-11.75), who placed second and third, respectively, will represent the United States in the long jump.

Tobler, an Aurora, Ill., native, competed at Illinois State from 2000-04, where he accumulated eight All-Missouri Valley Conference accolades, two conference titles, and was also named the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference's Most Valuable Track and Field Athlete. Tobler is currently an assistant track and field coach for jumps at Eastern Illinois.
