Final Stats
MACOMB, Ill. -
The rain subsided and sun came out just in time as the Illinois State's hammer throwers reached personal-best marks at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Track and Field Meet held in Macomb, Ill., Friday. Sophomore Colin Fane and freshman Pat Trofimuk took third and fourth in the hammer to highlight the Redbirds' performances.
Central Illinois wet weather left the hammer throwers, throwing in puddles; however, it didn't seem to phase Fane or Trofimuk who both hit personal-best marks.
"Colin and Pat both had nice PRs (personal-records) today," said assistant track and field coach Tim Thompson. "They were both relaxed and working the ball well and really went after it today."
Fane threw a distance of 157 feet, 4.6 inches to take third place, while Trofimuk launched a big throw of 156-3.5 for fourth.
Junior Kami Klopfenstein placed sixth in the women's hammer with a season-best distance of 132-6.2.
"Kami was making adjustments and trying to get faster to the ring," said Thompson. "She was improving her technique with each throw, but the distances just kept getting shorter."
The Redbirds are still in action competing at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz., complete results will be available following the completion of the meets Friday evening.
Action continues at the 20th annual Lee Calhoun Memorial Meet, hosted by Western Illinois, tomorrow. The men's javelin starts the action in the field at 9 a.m., with the 3,000-meter steeplechase getting the track events underway at 11 a.m.
